The First Known Scenes From Terminator 3?
By EdwardHavens
February 26th, 2002
A would be actor contacted me shortly after seeing our story on the continued search for a new John Connor for T3 (check the front page when you're done with this story). They emailed the address I listed with the first report, and got a quick response from the casting agency... with two pages of dialogue between John and another character named Susan. Could this be our first glimpse of the actual screenplay? It'll be a while before we know, but just in case...
Here are the sides for John Connor that is being sent out to actors:
EXT. RURAL HIGHWAY - NIGHT
The utility van speeds along the lonely road.
INT. BACK OF UTILITY VAN - NIGHT
Connor and Susan are alone in the rear compartment, a metal partition separates them from the driver's cab. They sit facing each other, the spilled bag of groceries between them.
SUSAN
There are people who care about me, they're going to be looking for me. I-- what is it you people want?
CONNOR
That's kind of hard to explain.
SUSAN
Who is he, where did he come from?
CONNOR can't think of anything but the truth. Why not:
CONNOR
He's a robot. From the future.
SUSAN stares at him like he's insane. He forges on:
CONNOR (cont'd)
Living tissue. Over a metal skeleton. Sent back in time to, to...
SUSAN
Go to hell.
Connor sighs, starting to regret his decision to get in back with her. He picks a small package out of the scattered contents of the bag and holds it out to her.
CONNOR
Jerky?
SUSAN
I'm a vegetarian.
CONNOR tries to talk as sincerely as possible.
CONNOR
I can't expect someone like you to understand this--
SUSAN
What's that supposed to mean?
CONNOR
I mean, someone normal. Someone sane.
(quietly, in earnest)
Just... the life you know-- all the stuff you take for granted-- it's not going to last...
CONNOR heaves a deep sigh. He's talking as much to himself as to SUSAN.
CONNOR (cont'd)
Imagine someone tells you that you're gonna save the world. The bad news is, first it all goes to hell-- armageddon, billions die... If it doesn't happen, your life is pointless. If it does-- and you didn't stop it-- it's all your fault. And... what if you're just not good enough?
SUSAN
What are you talking about?
CONNOR
I don't know. Fate, I guess. My own... everybody's.
SUSAN stares at him for a beat.
SUSAN
This is about drugs, isn't it.
Connor regards her for a thoughtful beat.
CONNOR
Maybe we're better off not talking.
He tears off a piece of the meat with his teeth. Suddenly, he notices something out the rear window. He leaps to his feet, peers out anxiously.
SUSAN
(alarmed)
What is it?
CONNOR
Get down. Don't let them see you.
SUSAN
What?
CONNOR
Get down! Now!
They hear the sound of SIRENS.
SUSAN
That's the cops! You can't keep me in here.
CONNOR
Do you want to get killed? Stay down.
SUSAN
Fuck you. You're the one who got me into this.
CONNOR
Christ-- don't you get it? I'm trying to save your life.
Terminator 3 opens in US theatres in July of 2003
ADDENDUM TO ABOVE STORY
Dateline: February 27, 2002
I received an email this morning which says the above pages are not from the final film...
Perhaps the person who sent the material to you choose to leave off the important disclaimer at the top of each page:
NOTE: THIS SCENE HAS BEEN MODIFIED FROM THE SCREENPLAY FOR AUDITION PURPOSE. COPYRIGHT 2002 C-2 PRODUCTIONS, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED, NO PORTION OF THIS SCRIPT MAY BE PERFORMED, REPRODUCED, OR USED BY ANY MEANS, OR QUOTED OR PUBLISHED IN ANY MEDIUM WITHOUT THE PRIOR WRITTEN CONSENT OF C-2 PRODUCTIONS.
In other words, these are not the scripted pages. They are specially made up for audition purposes and knowing that it will likely wind up in the public. Many productions do this sort of thing. Some even create plot points in the audition material that are nothing like what will actually happen in the real story.
There is a good chance this person could be 100% on the mark. Logically speaking, though, for a script that is so tightly held to C2's breasts, only someone who has seen the script could say with any kind of authority that the pages I received yesterday are made up. I know I haven't read the T3 screenplay, so as I said yesterday, we'll just have to wait and see. However, judging from the reaction I have seen concerning these pages on bulletin boards and newsgroups in the past 12 hours, fans of the series are liking what they read.
